Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Former Minister for Communications and Presidential Spokesperson

April 2,2020//-Former Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah today asked the government to respect the intelligence of Ghanaians following a revelation that a plush Bank of Ghana (BoG) hospital has been reserved for the treatment of COVID-19 VIP patients.

The government told journalists yesterday that an agreement had been entered between the Ministry of Health and the BoG which built the Bank Hospital for its but was abandoned due to change in government.

But Dr Omane Boamah said “the COVID-19 has caused the use of the Bank Hospital. As for telling Ghanaians everyone is a VIP, the response can be found on the streets and at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA)”.

On the streets, VIPs use siren and at KIA, VIPs and VVIPs travel through their designated segments. Government must respect the intelligence of Ghanaians, simple”.

Furthermore, if all “Ghanaians were VIPs” then why make that distinction in the first place, he questioned.

Dr Omane Boamah who is also a medical doctor raised concern about why the current government left the facility for almost three years after it completion but ran to open it for VIP treatment hospital for COVID-19 patients.

In his words: “Why waste the Bank Hospital for years? Why waste the University of Ghana Medical Centre until citizens began agitating?”

Dr Omane Boamah also punched the government for abandoning several hospital projects started by the previous Mahama government to rot across the country.

“Coronavirus has provoked the conscience of those who neglected these health projects. They may strive to do better going forward. And may we improve on our health system and make it resilient to serve the needs of all Ghanaians”.

Ghana has so far recorded 195 confirmed cases of COVD-19, 3 recoveries, 31 discharges and five deaths.
