Over 3,000 Benefits from Free Health Screening & Surgery at Bawku

Bawku, Upper East Region, April 16, 2019//-Scores of people in the Bawku Municipality have undergone health screening exercise, with many of them having their ailments treated at no cost.

The three-day screening and health promotion campaign was organised by Aludiba Foundation, a humanitarian organisation in collaboration with the Presbyterian Hospital at Bawku.

A team of Specialists, Doctors and Nurses from Accra, and Kumasi joined the counterparts from the Presbyterian Hospital at Bawku to screen diseases and offer medicationswhile surgeries were carried out on complicated cases.

Cases the team attended to were Hepatitis B, Cervical cancer, Diabetes, Sickle Cell, Oral health and a general examination of the human body.

Speaking at the ceremony, the General Manager of the Presbyterian Health Services, Samuel Fianko-Gyan commended the establishment of the Aludiba Foundation saying its existence and mission compliments the mission and vision of his outfit.

He said several interventions are underway to upgrade services at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital which currently has 388 beds in capacity.

He explained such interventions will help reduce referrals and provide world-class health care to the people of Bawku and the near cities, towns and villages.

“We are supposed to reach all manner of people with adequate and proactive healthcare and Aludiba Foundation has so far demonstrated they are true partners in caring for the welfare and health needs of people in this Municipality”, Mr. Fianko-Gyan said.

The Founder of the Aludiba Foundation, Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab, a native of Bawku, told the gathering he set up the Foundation and named it after his great grandfather who died in 1967 to immortalise his good deeds.

Mr. Abdul-Wahab who is the Chief Executive of the National Food Buffer Stock Company Ltd said he intends to use the Foundation as vehicle to reach out to the underprivileged, the sick and the poor as a way of giving back to society.

“It is my desire to create a good and healthy living condition and empower dreams that lead to sustainable growth and development”, he said.

Mr. Abdul-Wahab later donated an amount of GHC 5,000 to the Poor and Sick Fund of the Presbyterian Health Services and handed-over assorted medical kits and drugs to the Presbyterian Hospital and Nurses Training College at Bawku.

The Medical Director of the Presbyterian Hospital at Bawku, Dr.SeiduSukenibe lauded the Founder of the humanitarian gestures towards the health needs of the people of Bawku in general.

He recalled that Mr. Abdul-Wahab had earlier donated two Ambulances to the Bawku Central Mosque and the Hospital and added his gesture has made healthcare more accessible in the Municipality.

The Bawku Presbyterian Hospital currently has four Specialists and seven General practitioners and is ranked the 3rd largest health facility in the region.
