Accra, Ghana, October 21, 2020//-MTN Ghana has taken a bold step towards the digitization of the country’s folklores and cultural heritage to preserve and showcase them using technology locally and internationally.

To this end, the telecoms company today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Folklore Board which will serve as the framework to guide the collaboration and operations.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Accra, the Sales and Distribution Executive of MTN Ghana, Eric Nsarkoh, said: “As a leader in the telecoms space in Ghana, we thought of going beyond the celebration of festivals as a means to helping preserve our culture.

We commissioned the development of a Mobile Application, known as the Heritage App to showcase information on Ghana and its cultural Heritage”.

According to him, they started the process of gathering materials through their own engagements to populate the app.

“This is because the MTN Heritage app will only serve the purpose for which it was created only if it is loaded with relevant and rich content.

In the process, we came into contact with our partners from the National Folklore Board, who expressed their willingness to support this laudable initiative”, Mr Nsarkoh

“At MTN we believe that shared collaborations such as this yields result for the good of all.

As the initiators of the MTN Heritage App, one of our core responsibilities is to promote the app and we are using all our channels to promote it”.

The Heritage App is currently available on the Google Play Store and App store. There are plans to host it on the ayoba platform which is accessible in MTN Group operating countries in Africa and the Middle East.

He was confident that the Heritage App and the content that their partners would upload would help put Ghana on the world Map once again and attract the right investments that would further promote country’s arts and culture.

Mr Nsarkoh therefore urged everyone to download the Heritage app from the PlayStore and App store to learn more about the cultural heritage of Ghana.

On her part, the Acting Director of the National Folklore Board, Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante, said the digitization of the country’s folklores would put money in the pockets of the creative arts players.

Meanwhile Madam Asante signed for the Board while Mr Nsarkoh signed on behalf of MTN Ghana to seal the partnership.
