MTN Poised to Propel Ghana’s Digital Economy Agenda

Accra, March 13, 2018//-MTN Ghana is putting more focus on network  expansion and data coverage this year as a move to support the country’s digital economy agenda.

 The Chief  Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Asante who disclosed this at MTN Ghana stakeholder and media forum in Accra, explained that the telecom giant is poised to support this agenda.

To this end, he revealed that the company would spend an amount of $144 million on data network expansion and improvement projects, this year. Part of this amount would go into the LTE rollout of 230 new sites for coverage extension and capacity in the country, Mr Asante added.

He was quick to add that in the course of this year, MTN Ghana would rollout 695km fibre optic cable in certain parts of the country.

Also, the mobile telecoms operator which has been expanding its coverage in rural Ghana since its inception, is expected to rollout  200 rural sites in 2018.

Touching on 2G network expansion,  Mr Asante further revealed that 300 new sites would be built to enhance the network’s coverage and capacity, while 1,100 new sites on its 3G network would deployed to improve population coverage by 27%.

Furthermore, the telecom company is going to upgrade the capacity of its existing 2G and 3G sites to 250 and 670 respectively.

As the leader in both voice, mobile data, and mobile money,  Mr Asante who is also the Vice President of the South-East Africa and Ghana (SEAGHA) Region of the MTN Group is optimistic that the company is committed to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to create a distinct experience for its customers.
