Accra, December 26, 2017//- MTN Ghana Foundation, the corporate social responsibility wing of MTN, the leading telecom service provider, today  presented hampers to mothers and babies delivered on December 24, 25 and 26 at the Tema General Hospital, as part of the Christmas celebration.

Similar presentations took place at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Northern, Ashanti and Western regions respectively.

MTN Ghana which has been supporting the newborn mothers and their babies for the past five said the gesture is its unique way of welcoming the babies and urged them to stay.

The company’s staff led the Acting Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Mrs Georgina Fiagbenu and directed by the senior managers of the Tema General Hospital conducted the MTN Ghana staff around the maternity wards to present the hampers dubbed ‘Y’ello hampers’.

They were warmly received by the newborn mothers and some of their family members who were at the hospital at the time of the presentation.

Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Mrs Fiagbenu noted:  “As the Christmas festive season continues and everyone is celebrating, we thought that it would be a good idea to visit babies who have just been delivered and celebrate occasion with them”.

She said the gesture which was the fifth in the series also coincides with the MTN Ghana Foundation’s 10th anniversary.

The Foundation chose the Tema General Hospital because the company recently constructed a new maternity block for the hospital to ease congestion and improve maternal and neonatal health in the hospital, according to Mrs Fiagbenu.

The Acting Clinical Coordinator and the Emergency Medicine Specialist at the Tema General Hospital, Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu thanked MTN Ghana for coming to the aid of newborn mothers and their babies.

“The MTN’s assistance will go a long way to improve deliveries in the hospital” and he therefore used the occasion to urge other companies and philanthropists to emulate MTN’s example.
