MTN Ghana Welcomes Christmas Babies with Hampers

Accra, December 26, 2018//- MTN Ghana Foundation, the corporate social responsibility wing of MTN, the leading telecom service provider, today  presented hampers to mothers and babies delivered on December 24, 25 and 26 at the Maamobi General and 37 Military hospitals in Accra, as part of the Christmas celebrations.

 Similar presentations took place at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Northern, Ashanti and Western regions respectively.

MTN Ghana which has been supporting the newborn mothers and their babies for the past six years, said the gesture is its unique way of welcoming the babies and urged them to stay.

The company’s staff led the Customer Relations Executive, Mrs Jemima Kotei-Walsh, and directed by the senior managers of the two hospitals conducted the MTN Ghana staff around the maternity wards to present the hampers dubbed ‘Y’ello hampers’.

They were warmly received by the newborn mothers and some of their family members who were at the hospital at the time of the presentation.

Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Mrs Kotei-Walsh said:  “As the Christmas festive season continues and everyone is celebrating, we thought that it would be a good idea to visit babies who have just been delivered and celebrate occasion with them”.

She used the opportunity to congratulate the newborn mothers and urged them to take good care of the new babies.

The Midwife in-charge of the Maternity Ward at the Maamobi General Hospital, Mrs Edem Datsomor thanked MTN Ghana for coming to the aid of newborn mothers and their babies.

“The MTN’s assistance will go a long way to improve deliveries in the hospital” and he therefore used the occasion to urge other companies and philanthropists to emulate MTN’s example.

The Principal Nursing Officer at the 37 Military Hospital, Madam Deborah Boateng also thanked the telecoms company for the timely intervention.

At Maamobi Genral Hospital 10 babies- 8 females and two males, were delivered on the Christmas Day  (25th) and Boxing Day (26th), while 13 babies were delivered at the 37 Military Hospital  between the same period.
