MTN Ghana Partners Akwesi Antwi Foundation to Open Community Library In Tema

September 9, 2019//-MTN Ghana Foundation today partnered Akwesi Antwi Foundation (AAF) and Abundant Grace Baptist Church to open a new community library at Community 20 in Tema , as part of this year’s World Literacy Day.

The library which was built by the AAF in honour of the late Akwesi Antwi is located at the premise of the Abundant Grace Baptist Church with the sole aim of improving the reading culture of the school children in the Tema metropolis.

Speaking at the commissioning of the library, Dr Daniel Baffour Awuah, the father of the late Akwesi Antwi, said: “The late Akwesi Antwi had passion for reading. He used to love kids that is why we are commissioning this library”.

He was confident that the setting up of the library would continue the legacy of his late son who passed away at the age of 27. Before Akwesi’s death, he was pursuing a Masters Degree.

Madam Joyce Phyllis Ampofo, the Chief Executive Officer of Rainbow Trust Foundation, a non-governmental with the sole aim of ensuring that every child has access to books, was excited to provide fiction and non-fiction books for the newly opened library.

She said: “It was therefore a great honour when Dr Baffour Awuah spoke to us with the vision of establishing the library for the benefit of members of his church and the community as well”.

“We believe this initiative will go a long way to provide easy access to the children and people in the community to be abreast with the right knowledge which will positively transform their minds and eventually improve their lives”.

Madam Ampofo used the occasion to appeal to individual organizations, companies, philanthropists and parents to support the Foundation in various ways to ensure these visions come into fruition to secure the next generation.

Ebenezer Terkper, a senior official of the MTN Ghana Foundation, said the Foundation provided a computer, books and internet for the library.
