MTN Ghana Injects Dynamism Into Music Industry

Accra, Ghana, January 18, 2019//-MTN Ghana on Thursday injected dynamism into the country’s infant digital music content industry.

To this end, the telecoms services provider brought together stakeholders in the industry to discuss the state, challenges and future of the industry at its maiden ‘MTN Digital Music Conference’ in Accra.

The conference featured some record labels and online music distribution platforms in the country.

Speaking at the conference, a senior manager for products and services at MTN Ghana, Bless Agordjo disclosed that the telecoms company had acquired an online music distribution platform- CIMS to enable its subscribers have access to locally produced songs.

The CIMS, online distribution platform also would make music accessible and affordable to all Ghanaians, he added.

“We are here to help artistes so they can take advantage of our subscribers”, Mr Agordjo said,

On his part, the Managing Director for Content Connect Ghana, Munya Chanetsa, advised people to refrain from downloading songs from unauthorised music sites, explaining this could pose risk to their devices.

He urged artistes to collaborate with giant industry players and other giants like MTN to grow their brands.

Mr Chanetsa also added: “Grow your fan base and find a way of working with major artistes so they can help you”.

 He used the occasion to remind artistes to register their content with copyright societies including the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) to enable them enjoy royalties.

The GHAMRO, according to him would also prevent other platforms from using their content illegally.
