MTN Ghana Foundation is optimistic of collecting a total of 2,750 pints of blood in its ‘Save a Life’ blood donation exercise held in the morning of today across 16 locations in the country.
The Acting Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Mrs. Pala Asiedu Ofori said this at one of the blood donation centres held at the company’s headquarters in Accra.
The blood donation exercise which is the seventh edition was organised as part of activities to mark the Foundation’s 10 anniversary in the country.
“The Foundation has set up 16 bleeding centres in all the 10 regions of the country to create the opportunity for more volunteers to donate. Our aim is to collect 2,750 pints of blood from all locations”, she added.

The annual blood donation exercise started in 2011 in response to calls made by the National Blood Transfusion Service for voluntary contributions to replenish critically low stocks of blood in the major blood banks in the country.
The annual exercise gives staff of MTN and the general public the opportunity to show love on Valentine’s Day by donating a pint of blood each. Since 2011, the Foundation has collected 6,226 pints of blood in its annual exercises.
The blood collected with the support of personnel of the Ghana Health Services would be shared among the various health facilities in the country. They include the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and Ridge Hospital.
