Mombasa, Kenya, July 30, 2018//- Hospitals across the African continent are confronted with challenges brought by technological disruption and increased demands.

According to the World Economic Forum, in order to deliver continued improvements to the world’s health, healthcare will need to be transformed, with digital playing a vital role. And when a hospital’s technology is inadequate, the knock-on effects can be alarming.

Pandya Memorial Hospital is based in Mombasa on the Kenyan coast. It was established in 1947 and has 119 beds and a team of 70 specialists providing medical services to the community of Mombasa County. Many healthcare institutions like Pandya Memorial Hospital are being confronted by a massive technology disruption.

According to Rajesh Shukla, Chief Hospital Administrator at Pandya Memorial Hospital, the hospital’s outdated technology platform was limiting their access to real-time data regarding inventory, purchase flow, and financial statements.

“We wanted to automate business processes and improve the cost-to-value structure. Every record was manually recorded. There was a great and immediate need for integration and automation to ensure visibility, leading to our decision to implement SAP BusinessOne.”

SAP Business One provides hospitals with advanced capabilities. Its financial management tools give customers the ability to automate accounting tasks and conduct banking activities; the purchasing and inventory control capabilities gives the hospital access to accurate insight including inventory levels with real-time updates; and with business intelligence capabilities, the hospital is now able to gather data from multiple sources and generate timely and accurate reports to provide an end-to-end solution which is flexible both on-premise or in the cloud.

One of Pandya Memorial Hospital’s key challenges was the late payment of doctors due to a heavy reliance on manual processes.

“With the help of our implementation partners we enabled alerts to doctors and our accounts department for instant updates and quick release of outstanding payments. With a streamlined payment process we have seen improved satisfaction levels from doctors as well as an increase in referrals.”

The project was implemented by SAP partner ACEteK Software, Abdulkadr Moosajee, Operations Director of ACEteK Software, said Pandya now has automated processes enabling far quicker and more accurate decision-making.

“Billing processes, real-time inventory management, cash flow and supplier payment, purchase cycles, expiry control, medicine transfer between different floor and different patients and the financial management of patients are all improved and running more efficiently following the implementation.”

Shukla added that the hospital is pleased with the results and can now make better decisions in real time. “We expect hospital turnover to nearly triple thanks to improved efficiencies.”

Dr. Gilbert Saggia, MD of SAP East Africa, said: “SAP’s commitment to supporting best-run businesses, organisations and countries has helped Pandya Memorial Hospital.

In this exciting digital era, technology tools such as SAP Business One gives healthcare services providers greater access to information and powerful technological capabilities at their fingertips.

By connecting people and accurate, useful information, we take one more step toward addressing the world’s biggest challenges. We are proud of our customers and partners in supporting our vision for digital transformation and create the intelligence enterprise for the benefit of all mankind.”
