India Urges Beneficiaries of Indian Training Institutions to be Goodwill Ambassadors

India High Commissioner to Ghana, Birender Singh Yadav

Accra, Ghana, April 14, 2019//-The India High Commissioner to Ghana, Birender Singh Yadav, has urged beneficiaries of the Indian training institutions to be goodwill ambassadors of the Asian country.

According to him, the beneficiaries should work as the goodwill ambassadors of India, for they have been in India for extended period and been a part of Indian traditions, festivals and systems. Hence when they return home after completion of their studies, they take back a bit of “India” with them, he added.

The Indian envoy noted that the Indian government through its educational training and research institutions had provided technical assistance worth more than billions of dollars to Ghana and other developing countries.

Mr Yadav made the call at a reception in Accra to mark this year’s Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Foundation Day.

He added that; “India has continued and continues to be a centre for learning. We host thousands of students from 160 countries in our educational and research institutions. Many of them come on ICCR scholarships”.

The alumni of Indian institutions are playing a leading role in different fields across the world. In the field of politics, for example, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, Myanmar’s respected leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Afghanistan’s former President Hamid Karzai have all studied in India and gone on to lead their countries, Mr Yadav stated.

“And today the students who were once on ICCR scholarships in India are also holding some very important, prestigious positions in their respective countries and even internationally. When we see them excelling in their fields, it gives us immense pleasure, which also evokes an instant connection and a sense of belonging and affinity with them”.
“But surprisingly, so far, we did not have a practice of recognising such illustrious alumni. We need not only note their accomplishments, we need to celebrate them proudly and highlight their connections with our educational institutions”.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ziblim Iddi

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ziblim Iddi who was the guest speaker of the event commended the India High Commissioner to Ghana for his continued support, and the tireless effort in helping Ghana to develop its human resource.
