Accra, Ghana, January 15, 2020//-The only wholly Ghanaian-owned airline operating in the country, Goldstar Air, has revealed plans to name its maintenance base (hangar) after the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Alhaji Nuhu Sharabutu.
The airline will also name its aircraft after President Nana Akufo-Addo as well as former Ghanaian leaders John Mahama, Prof John Evans Atta-Mills, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings.
The names will be as follows: 9G-AKUFO-ADDO, 9G-JOHN MAHAMA, 9G-ATTA MILLS, 9G-JOHN KUFFOUR and 9G-JERRY RAWLINGS.
It is part of the avowed strategy of Goldstar Air to fully optimise Ghana’s tourism potentials and boost investor confidence in accordance with the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA).
According to Chief Executive Officer of Goldstar Air, Mr Eric Alfred Bannerman, the airline is projecting to have a fleet of over 100 modern aircraft and a network of more than 90 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and North America in 10 years.
In an interview with Class91.3FM’s Jerry Akornor on Tuesday, 14 January 2020 in Accra, Mr Bannerman, who is also the Executive Chairman of Goldstar Air, said the company intends to train and equip the locals with the skills needed in the aviation industry to scale up employment in the sector.
“Goldstar Air is coming up with a school and maintenance base (hangar) which is going to train the local people as pilots and engineers so we can get them employed; we’re projecting to run about a hundred aircraft in ten years”, he said.
Goldstar Air intends to operate and airlift passengers to 12 countries including London, Washington, Dubai, Banjul, Lagos, Abidjan, Freetown, Monrovia, Conakry, Dakar, Guangzhou and Rhode Island.
