Accra, Ghana, October 12, 2019//-Thousands of Ghanaian Muslim women today took to the streets of the capital city of Accra to demonstrate against the brazen acts of discrimination in public institutions for wearing the head veil known as hijab.
The organizers of the campaign are seeking to put a stop against the marginalization of Muslim ladies at government institutions including hospitals, schools, and SSNIT.
The protest dubbed the #hijabisanidentity campaign is an all-white peaceful walk which began from the Nima-roundabout to the Obra spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The ladies who were joined by some men took to the streets with placards which had inscriptions; “Hijab is my identity”, “I am a citizen of Ghana too”, ” Hijab is my identity” , ” Respect me and my hijab”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan S. Suhyini also joined the protest.
