Ghana Ups Daily Minimum Wage by 10%

Accra, Ghana, July 26, 2018//-Ghana today announced a 10 percent increase in the daily minimum wage from GHC9.68 to GHC10.65 for both public and private sector workers, effectively 1st January 2019.

The decision was  arrived at after a meeting held by the Tripartite Committee comprising  the government, labour and the Employers Association.

The committee directs that any establishment, institution or organization whose Daily Minimum Wage is below the new National Daily Minimum wage should adjust its wages upward with effect from 1st January, 2019, according to a statement issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

It further warned:  “Any establishment, institution or organization that flouts the new rate shall be sanctioned in accordance with law”.

The committee said it was committed to improving incomes and productivity in both public and private sectors of the country’s economy.
