Asamoah Gyan scored his 50th goal for the senior national football team in a comfortable win for the Black Stars over Ethiopia on Sunday.

Gyan beat his marker to head home a cross from Thomas Agyapong for the Black Stars’ opener in Kumasi as they roared to a 3-0 first half lead with further goals from John Boye and Ebenezer Ofori. Raphael Dwamena made it four early in the second half before scoring a fifth as the Stars secured a victory in their first AFCON 2019 qualifier. Gyan made his debut on November 19, 2003,  aged 17 years and 11 months and has played over 100 games for the Black Stars across several competitions including the AFCON and the World Cup.

Despite a few injury problems, particularly in recent years, Gyan has remained a key asset for the national team with his predatory instincts, brilliant movement and hold-up play creating a bother for every defence he’s faced.

One of his most iconic strikes was the first goal for the Black Stars at the 2006 World Cup after two minutes against the Czech Republic. Gyan also scored at the next two World Cups cementing his place as one of the nation’s best strikers.
