Ghana: Prof Gatsi Advises Nurses on Human Rights and professionalism

Ankaful, Central Region, Ghana, April 13, 2019//-A professor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. John Gatsi has advised nurses in Ghana to respect the human rights of their patients to enhance the relationship that exists between them.

According to him, “some patients and their families have started filing cases against health professionals and some hospitals”, because of unprofessional services offered by the health professions including nurses.

Prof Gatsi gave the advice when he spoke as the guest speaker at the handing over and fundraising ceremony of the Volta Region Students Association of Ghana (VORSAG) at Ankaful College Nursing near Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana.

He reminded the student nurses to be conscious of the rising demand for health professionals in both home and abroad to take their studies seriously.

Prof Gatsi also advised the students to speak their languages and respect other cultures to create a peacefully and harmonise atmosphere for proper delivery of healthcare to the Ghanaian people.

He further encouraged the students to appreciate the foods they have and patronise the work of people in the Ewe language.

To the chiefs, he appealed to them and other community leaders in the Volta Region to create databases for the people to help in easing development planning region.

“Our culture promotes hardwork, honesty and integrity but it is time the people from the region take entrepreneurship and creation of enterprises seriously “, John Gatsi, added.
