Ghana: Group Charges Akufo-Addo to Account for Galamsey Proceeds

President Akufo-Addo

Accra, Ghana, February 19, 2020//- Caucus for Democratic Governance, Ghana (CDG-GH), a pressure group has charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to account for every pesewa his government collected from the galamsey fight.

The Director General of CDG-GH, Dr EKHayford who made the call in a statement, noted that concessions of illegal small scale miners (galamseyers) and legal small scale miners were given to executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to operate because the party needed money for the 2020 election campaign.

“As a result of sales of bulldozers the NPP got $ 2.6 billion. Proceeds from gold seized gave NPP $1.5 billion. Monies from tractors and other seized items gave NPP party 500 million. This is how far Akufo-Addo and NPP can damage Ghana and its people”, he added.

According to him, Mr Akufo-Addo finds himself willingly or unwillingly fighting against everything Ghanaian.

He only blamed the collapsed of some 10 banks, 347 Microfinance companies and 28 savings and loans companies on the President.

Dr Hayford was quick to that the closed down of 53 fund management companies and other financial institutions in the country was a grand agenda of the government.

“Many of the banks they willfully closed down were established and nurtured during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government era. To be sure they do not contribute to political financing; Akufo-Addo government had to close them down”, he stated.

Touching on the recent demolition of properties at the Ghana Trade Fair Company site at La, a suburb of Accra, he described the action as ill-advised.

“The factories that have been closed down are not NDC factories; their neutral owners are however not against NDC.  Example Raymond Archer, a harmless businessman, employing 120 Ghanaian workers and paying taxes, had his company demolished for fear he could sponsor NDC campaign”.
