Ghana: Entrepreneur, 26, Wins MTN Heroes of Change 2019

Accra, Ghana, August 17, 2019/– Audience stood and clapped when Charles Ofori Antipem, a 26-year-old entrepreneur from Ayeduase in the Ashanti Region was adjudged as the ultimate winner of this year’s MTN Heroes of Change 2019.

He received a cheque worth GH¢100,000, a trophy and a citation at the grand finale of the season V of the MTN Heroes of Change programme held at the Accra International Conference last night.

Three other winners- Madam Louisa Enyonam Ansah, Dr Benjamin Akinkang, and Diana Adjei won prizes in the education, health and economic empower categories of the programme.

Each of them took home GH¢30,000 , a trophy and a citation, while the remaining six finalists also received GH¢10,000 each.

Also Derick Omari, a young social entrepreneur and Afia Pokua of Adom FM took home special prize each. They received GH¢10,000 and hampers each. The prize monies are meant to support the community projects of Charles Ofori Antipem, and the other winners.

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh said: “After five seasons, MTN Heroes of Change has lived up to the task. The project has since inception, received over 5000 entries. Out of this, 50 have been recognized and four have been adjudged ultimate winners”.

MTN Heroes of Change finalists from all seasons have demonstrated a commitment to brighten lives regardless of their own circumstances. They defied all odds to make lives comfortable for members of their communities, he added.

Mr Adadevoh also encouraged nominators to look out for stories that combine the emotional and touching stories with impact. We need to chart a course for rapid national transformation.

“As a digital provider leading the delivery of a bold new digital world, we are very eager to see how we can work together to push the transformation agenda of this country in a more systematic and sustainable manner. We want to make a huge impact on future generations”.

Who is Charles Ofori Antipem?

The 26-Year-old entrepreneur has invented a science set known the ‘mobile laboratory’ which is designed like the popular Mathematical set used in Junior High Schools in Ghana.

His laboratory contains scientific tools such as capacitators, conductors, and cells. It is compressed into a small box for JHS and Senior High Senior (SHS) students for their science projects and practicals.

Mr Antipem beat stiff competition from the nine other finalists with his simple but significant invention which is transforming science education in various communities across Ghana.

Nominated for MTN Heroes of Change

Earlier, the MTN Heroes of Change IV programme highlighted the humanitarian activities of the 10 nominees in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment on GTV , TV3, UTV, Adom TV, and other channels for 13 weeks.

Instructively, the MTN Heroes of Change was initiated in July 2013 to recognise and reward persons who have provided significant humanitarian services to their communities through personal sacrifices.
