May 15, 2018//-Two police officers in the Sene West district of the Brong Ahafo of Ghana have been beaten after peeved residents invaded a district police headquarters over an arrest.

The Monday attack was launched by some residents at Kwame Danso in Akyeremade community angered by the arrest of four of their people.

The suspects in police custody were arrested after they were alleged to have played a role in another attack two weeks ago on the Sisisala residents who deal in charcoal.

About 200 bags of wooden fuel was destroyed in that attack over some disagreements. The incident was then reported to the police.

After investigations, police arrested four persons namely; Osei Kwadwo, Akwasi Kuma, Kofi Dengal and one Nana Asempa who according to reports is the chief of the town.

But at about 5am, the indigenes in the Akyeremade community launched an assault on the district police headquaters which serves a population of at least 98,000 residents.

Helpless, the officers at the station were overpowered and the four suspects freed, regional correspondent Anas Sabit has reported.

Chief Inspector Nartey Dandy, in charge of the District Police headquarters disclosed to Joy News that “the mob loaded in three trucks and fully armed attacked the Police station beating up officers on duty and setting their arrested colleagues free.”

He added that “the people went further with their wicked intent to the compound of the Sanahene of Kwame Danso attacking him and other family members. Our police swift response saved the traditional ruler and his family.”

Attacks on police stations have increased in recent times.

In January, District Police Headquarters at Kwabenya in Accra was attacked and seven suspects freed. A police officer was killed in the process.

In March, police officers in Ejura in the Ashanti region had to flee after youths stormed the Ejura-Sekyedumase police station.
