Ghana: Deputy Minister Invited by CID over Anas’ Video

Accra, May 24, 2018//- Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Anthony Karbo has been invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for questioning.

His invitation is in connection with the CID’s ongoing investigations into alleged fraud against the President of Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Mr Nyantakyi was questioned and later granted bail by the police on Wednesday after returning home from Morocco.

He is being investigated for fraudulently using the president’s name for personal gain, per evidence captured in a two-hour investigative video documentary done by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the BBC.

President Nana Akufo-Addo reported the matter to the CID on Tuesday after having watched about five minutes of the two-hour footage.

While Mr Karbo’s name was mentioned in the undercover video which showed Mr Nyantakyi using President Akufo-Addo’s name to solicit a bribe from supposed potential investors.

The editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, confirmed on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program today that Mr Karbo, was mentioned in the video.

According to Mr Baako, the investigative team had earlier scheduled to interview Mr Karbo who is also the Member of Parliament for Lawra constituency, on Wednesday to comment on the aspect of the video.

“If you are not being interviewed, you can’t watch the portion that concerns you, so he knew. He was scheduled to be interviewed on Wednesday, meaning, he would have had the opportunity to watch portions of where he was mentioned so that he can react, and that is part of the investigations, so, the investigation is incomplete and that’s what I say,” Mr  Baako told host of the TV program.
