Accra, Ghana, July 31, 2018//-The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has described as “unfortunate and disturbing” allegations making rounds that the 2018 Ghana School of Law entrance examinations leaked.
While the Association says it can neither verify nor dispute the claims relating to the alleged leakage, it is calling on the General Legal Council and the Independent Examination Board “to thoroughly investigate the matter and state the position on the purported leakage”.
It emerged Friday, July 27, that ahead of the examination on the same day, the compulsory question and a marking scheme circulated among some students, especially those who wrote the paper at the New N Block and the Central Cafeteria of the University of Ghana.
At least, dozens of students have confessed receiving the question before writing the exam.
There has since been pressure mounting on the General Legal Council and the Independent Examination Board from some students and key stakeholders including U.S based Ghanaian lawyer, Professor Kweku Asare and Director of Mountcrest University College, Kwaku Ansah-Asare, for the issue to be investigated.
Adding its voice, the GBA also called on affected students to let cooler heads prevail and cautioned the public in their commentary about the issue.
“We would also urge the said candidates and Ghanaians generally to be guarded in their comments regarding statutory bodies and institutions and in this particular instance the General Legal Council,” read portions of a statement issued by the Association.
Meanwhile, some of the affected students have already petitioned the Chief Justice to dissolve the Independence Examination Board.
