Ghana: 3 Operation Vanguard Soldiers Arrested for Embarking on Illegal Operation

May 31, 2018//-Three military personnel said to be members of Operation Vanguard have been arrested at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region for embarking on an illegal operation at a galamsey site in the area.

The three plus four other colleagues in military and police uniforms, were said to have on May 30,  gone to a galamsey site belonging to 47-year-old Mensah Sani where they seized gold concentrate popularly referred to as ‘black’.

Owner of the site at about 4:15 am the same day reported the matter to the Police which moved in to the area in pursuit of the seven military personnel who were in a Toyota Hilux pick-up vehicle with registration GC 7920-12.

Surveillance was mounted on them at Wassa Japa where the police got information that the suspects were moving towards Akropong.

According to the Police, they followed up on the lead and managed to arrest three of the suspects – L/Cpl Boateng Shradrack, L/Cpl Obeng Seth and L/Cpl Paul Nkuah Attah.

A civilian driver of their vehicle, Fianyo Richard attached to the group, escaped arrest but his driving licence was retrieved by the Police.

Three SM rifles with 52 life cartridges, four mobile phones, three sets of military uniforms and a set of Police uniform were retrieved from them.

An investigation has commenced into the case, the Police said.
