Gas Explosion Kills Four Kids, Mother in Delta

August 12, 2018//-Gas explosion has killed four kids and a mother in Okwe Community, Asaba, Delta state, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.

As at the time of filling the report yesterday, doctors were battling to save the lives of those that sustained the injuries.

Eyes witnessed said a woman was cooking with stove in her provision shop when a leaking gas cylinder in the next shop suddenly caught fire resulting in serious explosion.

The owner of the gas shop was said to have gone to Onitsha market leaving his visitors, a woman and her two kids.

The two kids died on the spot but their mother and two other kids who came to buy things at the provision shop sustained various degrees of injury.

They were rushed to Okwe General Hospital, where the other two kids later died.

The owner of the roadside gas shop was said not to be around at the time of incident.

Eye witness account said, “At about 4pm we saw her cooking with stove at the front of her shop, before we could know what was happening, a gas cylinder exploded to the extent that the cylinder threw itself away at a long distance but did not kill anyone except that the provision shop where the woman was cooking with two other shops were burnt’’.

“When fire razed down the shop, two kids with their mother were inside the shop.

Their mother quickly ran out of the shop without the children, shouting.

Everywhere was tensed and when she realized that her children were inside, she ran inside the shop again to rescue them.

Unfortunately the fire killed her and two other kids that came to buy things.”
