Fighting COVID-19: MTN Ghana Gives 88,000 N95 Masks to Regional, District Hospitals

Accra, Ghana, September 11, 2020//-MTN Ghana today presented 88,000 pieces of N95 facemasks to all the 16 regional hospitals and some selected district hospitals in the country.

The facemasks serve as protection for the health workers who are fighting the spread of the ravaging Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.

The items worth several thousands of Ghana cedis were donated simultaneously across the country.

At the Greater Accra Regional Hospital popularly known as Ridge Hospital, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng led a team of senior staff to present 3,000 pieces of the N95 facemasks to the management and staff of the hospital.

In short address, he said the masks would go a long way to protect the health workers in and out of the facility from contracting the deadly virus.

Immediately COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, MTN Ghana moved swiftly to put in place measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.

These key measures Mr Koranteng also mentioned include the positioning of alcohol base sanitizers at vantage points across branches and experience service centres for use by customers and employees; and the deployment and the use of guns and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Mr Koranteng added that donations were earlier made to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) of the University of Ghana, National COVID Trust, among others.

Additionally, MTN Ghana has also zero rated over 178 educational online sites for the benefit of students and to promote research and learning during the period.

Receiving the items, the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh, was grateful to MTN for donating “these high-quality masks to the hospital”.

“These masks will go a long way to improve our performance. It will also save the hospital some money”, he stated.

Dr Srofenyoh, also used the occasion to appeal to other companies to follow the shining example of MTN Ghana by donating generously to the hospital and other hospitals around the country.

At time of this publication, Ghana has recorded 45,313 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 283 deaths, while 44,188 patients have so far recovered from the deadly disease, according to statistics from the Ghana Health Service.
