Eidul Fitr 2021: MTN Ghana Supports National Chief Imam

Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana today presented cash and assorted items to the National Chief Imam of Ghana, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Usumanu Nuhu Sharubutu towards the celebration of this year’s Eidul Fitr to mark the end of Ramadan.

The telecoms giant supported this year Eidul Fitr celebration with cash and items worth several thousand Ghana cedi. The donations included a cheque of GHC5,000, 15 bags of rice, 10 cartons of cooking oil, 5 bags of sugar, 40 boxes of mineral water, 28 crates of assorted soft drinks, a ram, 500 face shields, and MTN airtime.

 In addition to this donation, MTN Ghana is also donating to the regional Chief Imams in Tamale, Takoradi, and Kumasi all in the Northern, Western and Ashanti regions.

The telecoms company will also donate food items to Muslim families in Nima, Maamobi, Fadama, Ashaiman, Kasoa, Koforidua Zongo, Asawase, Aboabo, Sawaba, Moshie Zongo and Akwatia line.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the residence of the National Chief Imam at Fadama in Accra, Senior Manager for Customer Relations and Credit Management of MTN Ghana, Salihu Abu, said the donations are made “in the spirit of Ramadan and Eidul Fitr, and in furtherance of our existing relationship with the Chief Imam and the Muslim community”.

We thank Allah most especially for your life – we have noted with gratitude to God your recent 102 birthday celebration and we are so glad to have come to meet you and your elders in good health”.

25th anniversary

He also used the opportunity to inform the office of the National Chief Imam that MTN Ghana would mark the 25th Anniversary of its operations this year. “As part of the celebrations, MTN Ghana has set-aside the equivalent of $25 million to support the country with a legacy project and other community intervention projects.

Details of the celebrations will be made public and we will find time to communicate with your good office. We are very grateful to you and the entire Muslim community for your support over the years”, Mr Abu said.

He encouraged the Muslim community as well as everyone living in Ghana to continue to observe the COVID-19 guidelines by wearing their facemasks where necessary, continue washing and sanitizing their hands regularly and also keep practicing social distancing.

Chief Imam praises for MTN 

In a short speech, the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Usumanu Nuhu Sharubutu thanked MTN Ghana for the continuous support and prayed for Allah’s abundant blessings for the company and its management.

In his own words: “May Allah elevate MTN to the greatest height”. He again called on Ghanaians to live with one another peacefully.

 For 14 consistent years, MTN Ghana has been supported the Chief Imam during Eidul Fitr celebrations by way of donations and organizing key events in Nima and Accra New Town, all in an effort to foster peaceful coexistence in the communities.

Similarly, the company has been supporting the National Hajj Board annually in the organization of the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Later, Imams and Elders of the Muslim community received the items on behalf National Chief Imam and the Muslim community.
