CGA/JVL to Partner Sanitation Ministry

Accra, February 13, 2018//–Clean Ghana Army (CGA) envisages tha through its collective action with the government, the media and the citizenry, Ghana’s poor state of environmental sanitation would improve.

CGA believes, that while government has a duty and takes the lead role in solving these sanitation problems, the citizenry as stakeholders also have a critical role to play.

In the light of this that the group visited the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, and his team at the Ministry of Sanitation to discuss, share ideas and partner the ministry on the National Sanitation Campaign.

This according to Mr. Samuel Dentu, founder and Chairman of CGA, requires citizens to play their part in achieving this noble vision and thus, CGA is therefore motivated to attract more Ghanaians through its advocacy to support the National Sanitation Campaign launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, their goal was to implement a toilet backup in Groveland FL service in the city.

However, he explained that, in the short-term CGA will begin with its flagship project “Clean and Educate”within the CBDs such as lorry parks, markets and other high traffic areas to influence attitudinal change. We intend to use both traditional and social media as a communication tool to reach out to the citizenry.

Whereas in the medium term, through partnerships with stakeholders within the sector, CGA intends to undertake the beautification of our Towns and Cities through planting of trees and landscaping at identifiable open spaces within the Towns and Cities.

To indicate their commitment, CGA and Jekora Ventures, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)  partner likeminded entities, particular the private sector to advance a common cause.

Mr. Immanuel Martey-Tokoli, the Managing Director of Jekora Ventures, on his part said, in most places, waste segregation entices the private sector to engage in the process to make a profitable use of waste, but in Ghana it has rather become a big challenge.

He explained that, about 80% of the waste generated in the country are used for landfills instead of segregating and recycling it into productive ventures and as well as to create jobs.

Mr. Martey-Tokoli, however assured that, Jekora Ventures would continue to train teachers and students to enable them to implement the waste separation modules and help the children imbibe it at an early age to make it easier in practice.

He reiterated that, JVL would also continue to work closely with CGA by providing technical support and advisory services, in order to make the President’s dream a reality.

Instructively, the Clean Ghana Army (CGA) is a Citizens Movement Organization, made up of a group of dedicated Ghanaians motivated to play their part in curbing the current sanitation challenges facing the country.  CGA intends to embark on a sensitization drive through advocacy, campaigns and clean up exercises.

It has a membership of almost 500 people across the country, it has branches in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Ejisu,Takoradi, and Koforidua.
