Asantehene Calls for Chiefs-Gov’t Collaboration to Develop Ghana

Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana, April 17, 2019//-Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has made it clear that he would cooperate with corporate Ghana to venture into sectors that will generate economic benefits for Asanteman in particular and Ghana in general.

“ The celebration of my 20th anniversary as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool marks a new beginning in Asanteman to tap into opportunities in line with government programmes, working in partnership with corporate Ghana to venture into sectors that will generate economic benefits for Asanteman in particular and Ghana in general”, he said

Otumfuo Osei Tutu – a development oriented traditional ruler – was speaking as the guest of honour at the “Chancellor’s Day” of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), on Monday, April 15, 2019.

He disclosed that when called to take the position of the KNUST Chancellorship in March, 2006, it came with new challenges entirely different from chieftaincy matters that he had been accustomed to he was elated because it was an opportunity to serve, and indeed, have nurtured, molded the University to be one of the best science and technology learning institutions in Ghana and a world class one.

The Asantehene said chiefs have been able to assist their people to settle disputes, educate them on the proper interpretation and application of customary laws and practices and more importantly assist them to improve on their socio-economic lives.

“Because of this, we are abreast of the needs and aspirations of the masses in Ghana and this knowledge, I believe is a great tool that can be employed to assist central government to fashion out the right policies and strategies for the betterment of Ghana”, he noted.

The Asante monarch assured  to protect, guide and guard the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) at all times so long as the powers and authority vested in him allow to enable the institution living up to its mandate.

Earlier in the year Otumfuo Osei Tutu appealed to members of opposition parties in the country to support government to effectively implement policies and programmes to develop the country.

The Asantehene who was speaking at a New Year Service in his honour at the Manhyia Palace forecourt by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana urged Ghanaians to rally behind President Akufo-Addo to implement policies and programmes that were aimed at bringing economic prosperity and growth to the country.

He suggested that opposition parties should explore ways to constructively criticise the government by offering suggestions about policies and programmes to be implemented.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu who has a number of honorary doctorate degrees to his credit has since his enstoolment in 1999, proved to be a natural leader with the conviction that traditional leadership rests on a capacity to reconcile, heal and mend wounds and also motivate people.
