Lebanese Businessman Threatens News Ghana Editor Over Elite Apartment Publication

The Lebanese national, Bassam Elhusseni who has threatened a legal showdown with the editor

Accra, Ghana, November 6, 2019//-A Lebanese national, Bassam Elhusseni has threatened the Managing Editor of News Ghana, Roger Aganah with legal suit, after a publication carried by the portal on his company.

The letter signed by Daniyal Abdul Karim Esq. said, “We act as Solicitors of Investplus Limited, managers of Elite Apartments and Mr. Bassam Elhusseni (“our Clients”) upon whose instructions we write.
Our Clients inform us that on 4th November, 2019, you published on your online news portal (newsghana.com.gh) a new item titled, “Danger looms at Airport West following bad odour from Elite Apartment facility.”
The letter continued, “Your publication is blatantly untrue and has no basis whatsoever. It tarnishes the image of our clients and exposes them and their related businesses to huge economic losses.
We therefore have our Client’s instructions to demand that you pull down the said news item before 6.00 pm today, 5th November, 2019. Failure to do that will result in us instituting a legal action against you for compensation for the grave damage caused them and their related businesses without further recourse to you.”
It must be noted that News Ghana indeed carried a news item on its portal on Tuesday, November 4, 2019 on a foul smell from an Elite Apartment facility at Airport West area, here in Accra.
Our investigations has revealed that the sewage system put in place was poorly constructed as owners of the apartment channeled all the pipes containing wastewater into a secluded area in the shaft within the building.
The sewage fecal water has overflowed and is open and stagnant in the shaft area where the lift is, causing the Ammonia gas.
The development, according to our findings compelled the owners to acquire a pumping machine to get rid of the wastewater but that has rather worsened the situation.
The Ammonia gas together with the diesel smell from the pump the owners are using is carried up the shaft into the vents in their bathrooms, in the corridors and stairways, alongside the lift.
In order to ensure a fair reportage, News Ghana spoke to all the relevant stakeholders’ vis-à-vis affected persons, an official from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as Bassam Elhusseni himself.
It must be stressed that News Ghana provided video and pictorial evidence regarding the problem in the Elite Apartment facility.
It is therefore surprising for us to be issued such a warning letter. We will, however, wish to serve notice to Bassam Elhusseni and his people that News Ghana stands for the truth and will fight till the end especially when the matter in question involves a foreigner taking undue advantage of Ghanaians.
More revelations on Bassam Elhusseni and his clandestine activities in exploiting Ghanaians soon.
