21 Days of Y’ello Care: MTN Ghana Touches Over 2,000 Lives Nationwide

Accra, July 12, 2019//-MTN Ghana today announced that it has touched over 2,000 lives nationwide during its 21 Days of Y’ello Care activities.

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, who disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care Challenge, was impressed with the number of lives touched within the short period.

He revealed that 330 unemployed young people were trained in make-up/wig making, beads making and Online Digital Marketing during the 21 Days of Y’ello care programme.

Mr Adadevoh added that 150 youth were trained in programming, web design and entrepreneurship, while the executives and senior managers of the telecom company mentored 48 young CEOs/entrepreneurs.

In his own words: “MTN volunteers supported the construction of a 20 bed capacity hostel for trainees at the VAG Sevico Center at Pantang. In addition, MTNers also provided training in Financial Management, Social Media and Customer Relations for selected beneficiaries.

MTN Volunteers also visited various correctional centres. In Accra, staff visited the Borstal Institute to motivate young inmates, according to Mr Adadevoh.

Under the Global Y’ello Care Day initiative over a thousand youth were educated on the negative impact of drug abuse at Tema Manhean, Cape Coast and Takoradi.

“Today’s closing ceremony brings to the fore what 21 Days of Y’ello Care stands for. Y’ello Care seeks to create a positive impact in the communities in which we operate”, the CEO stressed.

Besides this, we also achieved another milestone in terms ofparticipation. We had 92% in participation for this year as compared 66% attained in 2018”.

Mr Adadevoh therefore used the occasion to express the company’s profound appreciation to all our Y’ello Care partners, particularly the National Youth Authority, Narcotics Control Board, Ghana Pharmacy Council, Icode Gh, ECrime Bureau, and EIB Network.

To the beneficiary institutions and communities, he thanked them for their cooperation and for giving them the opportunity to support them.

“We encourage you to assume ownership of the projects; for those who learnt various skills we urge you to continue to enhance your skills for you to be the best in your chosen vocations”.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Emmanuel Asigri said the partnership between his outfit MTN Ghana was mutual beneficial and called for more partnerships for the betterment of the Ghanaian youth.

Instructively, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care Challenge is an annual employee volunteering initiative launched by MTN Group in 2007 to encourage MTN staff to commit their time and resources to community service for 21 days in June.

The “21 Days of Y’ello Care” is a competition amongst MTN operations worldwide to ascertain the highest number of staff involved in volunteerism and initiating projects with remarkable impact. The country with the highest staff participation and the most impactful project wins the prize money of $100,000 which is expected to be reinvested in community projects.

Since its inception, MTN Ghana has won the 2008 WECA Regional Awards and the overall Y’ello Care Challenge for 2010 and 2011. MTN Ghana also won the Y’ello Care ICT Project for 2013 and Y’ello Care Innovation Project award for 2014.
