13 Ghanaian Medical Doctors, Others Benefit from Gov’t of India Training Programmes

Accra, Ghana, September 14, 2018//-13  Ghanaian medical doctors selected from four regional hospitals of the country namely, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital; and Tamale Regional Teaching Hospital are participating in four-week medical training programmes in India.

Their study areas include Critical Care Medicine, Urology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Cardiology, Laproscopic surgery, Radiation Oncology, Nephrology and Orthopedics at Apollo Hospitals in four cities of India-Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad under the decision of India-Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi by Government of India in October 2015.

The fully sponsored training programmes being conducted in September this year are modern methods of healthcare treatment and technology and will go a long way to improve the skills and boost capacity building of the doctors and the health sector of the economy of Ghana by the Government of India.

In addition, five Ghanaian officials from the Ministry of Energy are currently undergoing three-week training in Solar Energy at National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram. Three others from the same Ministry of Energy are also benefiting from two-week programme on Small Hydro Power Policy and Regulation at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, one of the renowned institute in technology in India and one official from the same Ministry for training on Petroleum Refining Technology and Petrochemicals at Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun for 12-week in this September. The Government of India is assisting friendly developing countries like Ghana through rubric of South-South Cooperation to boost capacity in the energy sector.

The India-Africa Forum Summit is the official platform for African-Indian relations. It was established on 4th April 2008 with the objective of enhancing and widening its ambit for mutual benefit  in the areas of agricultural sector, health, trade, industry and investment, education, peace and security, promotion of good governance and civil society and information and communication technology to African countries.

Besides, five officials from the Parliamentary Services of Ghana also benefitted from Internship Parliamentary Programme at Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training, New Delhi under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) in August this year. Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department of Ghana Police Service also participated in Fingerprint and Science course under ITEC programme to reduce the crime rate in the country.

Other officials from various Ministries are still undergoing various training programmes in Banking, Finance, Accounts and Audit, Cyber technologies, Engineering and Technology, Government function, Human Resource Development and Planning, Information and Communication Technology, Media and Journalism, Petroleum and Hydrocation, Power, Renewable &  Alternative Energy, Project management, Smes and Entrepreneurship to mention few in reputable institutions in India. Moreover, more Ghanaians are yet to benefit from various training in India before the end this year.
