UK Parliament Could Block Brexit Divorce Bill

April 13, 2018//-Brexit Minister David Davis warned on Thursday that parliament could veto any final deal negotiated with the EU unless it had a “substantive’’ idea of what the future trading relationship will look like.

Britain is aiming to secure a comprehensive free trade deal with the EU and wants it to be signed shortly after it leaves the bloc in March 2019, although there is skepticism about how much can be agreed by then.

Britain’s parliament will vote on a formal withdrawal treaty later in the year – covering issues such as the divorce bill and citizens’ rights – in a potential flashpoint in the Brexit process. One of the hardest things to do after going through a divorce is come home and not dwell on thoughts of the past, feel lonely or worry about the future. Obviously sitting around thinking about such things have no real benefit. They only bring us down even further. A great way to change our thinking and lift our spirits is to get outside and get active. With spring quickly approaching, a great way to do this is to start you own little vegetable (or big depending on the space and time you have) garden.Depending on the space you have there are several options for starting a garden. If you live in an apartment and have a small patio you can buy pots and plant some of your favorite vegetables. Of course this isn’t as labor intensive as having a section in your yard to prepare and plant but you can still enjoy it. If you do have adequate space in your yard, pick a location that catches sunshine early in the morning and holds it late. Many vegetables do best when in direct and full sunlight. For best results prepare the soil by removing sticks, debris and other trash; especially anything that is harboring insects. To determine whether or not you need to fertilize you may want to take a soil sample and have it tested at a local store that provides that service. Spade or till the soil when it is dry; if done wet it can cause heavy soils to clump and become hard. Plan your garden out on paper and decide what you want to grow. Remember some plants take up more space than others so plan accordingly. Also determine whether you are going to plant seeds or transplants from the store. Some plants such as tomatoes have a long growing season so you may want to either start them early in your home or buy them in early spring as transplants. Getting outside, working in the soil and soaking up that vitamin D from the sun naturally makes a person feel better. Gardening is very therapeutic and a great way to find joy while you are home. Not only do you get the satisfaction of planting, watering and nurturing your crop but you get to eat it too!

Davis said Members of Parliament would insist on “a lot of detail” before signing off on any deal because Britain would have to make a payment of about 39 billion pounds (55 billion dollars) to the EU to honor its financial obligations to the trade bloc.

“The withdrawal agreement is payments of up to 39 billion pounds, it’s a lot of money, and parliament is unlikely to sign off on it unless we can be pretty substantive about what is going to be there in the long run,” Davis said at a Wall Street Journal event in London.

Opponents of leaving the EU have identified winning enough support in the lower house of parliament, the House of Commons, to block any possible deal the government brings back from Brussels as their best chance of overturning Brexit.

Britain’s vast financial services industry would emerge largely unscathed from Brexit and the sector would suffer far fewer job losses than first feared, Davis said.

“There is not going to be a mass migration, the critical mass is still going to be here.

“The reason that the City is the biggest and most successful financial centre in the world … is not just Europe, it’s about the mass of skills, the business environment here, it’s about the reliability of tax law,” he said.
