NCA Charged Consumers to Demand Quality Service from Telcos

2018 World Consumer Rights Day

March 17, 2018//-The Director of Consumer and Corporate Affairs at the Ghana’s National Communications Authority, Nana Defie Badu, has underscored the need for all consumers to be well informed of their right to a quality service delivery from their mobile service providers across the country.

She said telecommunication networks does not have the right to either put customers on pay-as-you-go nor subscribe any bundles package for them without their consent.

According to Madam Badu, service providers are supposed to keep  their consumers well informed via text messages with regards to their airtime, bundles or any other packages at a given interval, as to whether they run low in airtime, bundles or even when there is any interference in network connectivity.

This she said, would help harmonize the good customer relationship between telcos and  their customers.

She was speaking at the 2018 World Consumer Rights Day, which is globally marked on March 15 of every year to create the awareness about consumer rights and their needs, in Accra at the Dome Market dubbed  “Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer”.

The event Nana Define Badu said, was aimed at educating and informing traders and commuters of their rights and responsibilities as consumers of Telcos services.

The NCA, she said, is the body sorely responsible for giving licenses to telcos and as well as ensures that, network service providers do not take an undue advantage of consumers by undermining their rights.

Meanwhile, she explained that, the NCA is set to rollout a monitoring project focused at checking telecommunication service providers on the quality of service they provide for their consumers within this very month.

Mrs. Mavis Obeng Aidoo of the Authority’s Consumer and Corporate Affairs Division also reiterated that, consumers are at the heart of the Authority and therefore encouraged the gathering to approach the Authority in any of its offices located across the country with their problems and complaints.

She  urged the public to contact the NCA on 0800110622, whenever they report a problem to network service providers and were not satisfied with answers provided them.
