Accra, December 18, 2017//-MTN Ghana has connected 15,000 homes , offices and 50 communities to its fibre broadband service in some parts of Greater Accra, Central, and Eastern regions.
While deployments are ongoing in Ashanti and Western regions. After this, the company will extend the service to cover all the key cities in the country. This came to light to at the official launch of MTN’s Fibre Broadband Service in Accra today.
A Senior Manager at MTN Business, Richard Denu disclosed the company had invested GHC70 million on the service to enable them provide high speed, reliable and affordable internet to Ghanaians and businesses operating in the country.
In a speech read for the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Asante noted that MTN, since 2015 has set the pace by investing heavily in the deployment of Fibre Broadband and related services in line with our belief that “everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected world”.
“Today marks a formal launch of this great ambition”.
He said: “As the leader in the telecommunications industry and with over 17 million subscribers, MTN Ghana has always been on the forefront of continuous innovations in technology to enhance customer experience.
We are constantly seeking avenues to realize our vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world and our mission to make our customers lives a whole lot brighter and the introduction of Fibre Broadband is no exception”.
Mr Asante explained that MTN Fibre Broadband brings diverse solutions to their clientele including high-speed internet access, live streaming of online TV channels or Video on Demand, home and office automation including security services.
“Opportunity also exists to drive innovations like remote office (work from home), telemedicine, e-learning and Internet of things (IoT) solutions all via MTN Fibre broadband”.
These statistics mean that a lot more needs to be done to enable the unconnected to be connected especially in our part of the world, he added.
Mr Asante was very confident of the enormous benefits that Fibre Broadband presents both to the individual and nation and they therefore cannot afford to have anyone left behind in the connected world.
He stressed: “The digital revolution, as some people refer to it, has significantly changed the way we experience our environment and MTN is committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian has an opportunity to be digitally connected through MTN Fibre Broadband.
The time has come for individuals, home owners and corporate institutions to experience the enormous benefits of a modern connected life and MTN is offering to be your partner of choice for this journey”.
Without a doubt, broadband is the nervous system of today’s new civilization, so broadband access is a top priority for our technological society. It is very important that broadband be a high-quality universal service, Mr Asante added.
“The deployment of fibre broadband networks and related solutions creates value not only for network operators but for customers, promotes economic development and ultimately enhances quality of life”.
A Deputy Minister of Communications, George Andah who was the special guest commended MTN for taking this bold initiative to extend broadband access to homes and offices through their Fibre Broadband project.
“We are optimistic that MTN Fibre Broadband initiative will eventually help take Ghana closer to its journey of transforming the economy and society into a fully-fledged information and knowledge-based society and economy in the foreseeable future”.
