MTN Ghana CEO Urges Heroes of Change Winners to Continue to Do More

Accra, June 19, 2017//- The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Asante has urged winners of the MTN Heroes to continue to do more in spite of their limited resources.

According to him, the winners’ benevolent projects are making a great impact and helping create endless opportunities for many people in their various communities.

Mr Asante said this when the season III winners and finalists of the MTN Heroes of Change paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra.

He added: “Your selflessness and commitment in making our communities a better place is admirable”.

“….MTN Heroes of Change is one of the projects I am very passionate about and it is a great pleasure to have the men and women who are championing community upliftment projects here us today”, Mr Asante said.

With a great sense of pride, he congratulated the winners for their contributions towards the development of the country, stressing: “The very important contributions you are making for the advancement of society have been duly recognised by MTN and the country as a whole.

Since the launch of the MTN Heroes of Change in 2013, “we have seen the efforts of amazing people such as yourselves, who bring hope to our communities and to individuals who have no hope. Your contributions to development in our communities cannot be quantified by money. The time, energy, sacrifice and commitment are invaluable”, the MTN Ghana CEO noted.

Mr Asante was quick to add: “Today we have fulfilled our promise and commitment with a token of our appreciation for the good work done. It is our hope that the prize money would be used to expand your projects and create more opportunities for more beneficiaries”.

Responding to a question whether it is possible for MTN Ghana to adopt some of the Heroes of Change projects, the Executive Director of MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor  revealed: “We are currently in discussions to adopt some of the projects”.

Speaking through a sign language interpreter, the Ultimate Winner of this year’s MTN Heroes of Change, Madam Genevieve Basingha once again thanked MTN Ghana for the honour done her and her colleague winners.

She said: “I pray that your work will continue to be successful”.  Other winners and finalists also used the opportunity to thank the leading telecom services providers for the recognition and that the prize money would be used for the intended purpose.
In May this year,  Madam Basingha, a hearing impaired was adjudged as the ultimate winner of this year’s MTN Heroes of Change.
She  received a cheque worth GH¢100,000, a trophy and a citation at the grand finale of the season III of the MTN Heroes of Change programe held at the National Theatre in Accra last night.

Three other winners- Rev. Moses Asaah, Rev. Monsignor Alex Bobby Benson and Jack James Dawnson won prizes in the education, health and economic empower categories of the programme.  Each of them took home GH¢30,000 , a trophy and a citation. While the remaining six finalists also received GH¢10,000 each.

The prize monies are meant to support their community projects.

During the competition, the MTN Heroes of Change programme highlighted the humanitarian activities of the 10 nominees in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment on GTV, Multi TV, TV3 and GhOne channels for 13 weeks.

Instructively, the MTN Heroes of Change was initiated in July 2013 to recognise and reward persons who have provided significant humanitarian services to their communities through personal sacrifices. 

The MTN Ghana Foundation is the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of MTN Ghana, the leading telecoms service provider in the country.
