Former President Rawlings

Accra, March 1, 2018//-Former president Jerry John Rawlings has asked the country’s security agencies to ensure that Ghana is safe and secured from armed groups.

This follows the recent increases in armed robbery attacks in the capital city-Accra and other parts of the country.

In his official twitter post-‘Office of JJ Rawlings’, he therefore urged the security agencies especially the police to rise up to the occasion to address the current insecurity in the country.

There have been reported five separate robberies in less than 48 hours, in which at least one person was killed.

On Tuesday this week, armed robberies attacked the office of Royals Motors at North Industrial area in Accra in broad day-light.

Four armed men stormed the Royal Motors at about 8:00am and fired guns, stole the company’s cash and run off with the CCTV recording.

The second incident happened in Tema on Wednesday where a Lebanese man was shot dead shortly after he went to withdraw cash from the Zenith Bank at the Tema Industrial Area Wednesday morning.

AK-47 rifle-wielding armed robbers trailed the man popularly known as Alhaji after he left the bank at about 11:30 am in his Toyota Corolla vehicle.

An eye witness said the deceased’s car was blocked by the armed gang who then shot him and bolted with an amount believed to be 200,000 cedis.

The witness said at least eight armed men in a car and on a motorbike carried out the attack.

The deceased, believed to be in his early 50s, worked with Delta Agro, a soap-manufacturing company.

Wednesday’s incident which comes minutes after the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery assured the nation, the security agencies have the situation under control, will heighten the growing fear and insecurity in the country.
