Expresso Workers Demand Salary Arrears

Accra, February 23, 2018//-The Concerned Workers Group of Expresso are worried they may lose their unpaid salaries and other benefits due them if the National Communications Authority (NCA) revoke the license of the company.

According the group, Expresso owes the workers several months of salary, as well as defaulting in paying workers’ SSNIT contribution.

“We have mixed feeling in the sense that we are worried once the license gets revoked, then it means all the debt the company owes us including the unpaid salaries will be locked. Mind you, not only our unpaid salaries, but our SSNIT contributions, and our provident fund have also not been paid for a period of about three and a half years” Chairman of the Concerned Workers Group of Expresso, Kojo Nkansah explained.

The Minister for Communications, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful  recently disclosed on Point Blank (Citi Eyewitness News) that telecom companies Expresso and Glo may lose their licenses if they fail to meet a 30-day ultimatum given by the ministry to answer questions on their poor operations.

But shortly after the announcement, the workers are demanding for their unpaid salaries and other benefits before the company goes down.

Mr. Nkansah pointed out that workers are likely to be worse off if the license is finally revoked.

“Our efforts to know who is acting on behalf of the company as the owner has proved futile. We know that as soon as the license is revoked, we will be forced to forfeit our unpaid salaries,” he lamented.
