Dana Air Crash: Nigerians Call for Transparent, Responsive Action

February 22, 2018//-Nigeria’s Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has urged authorities carrying out investigations into the Dana Airline that overshot the runway to be transparent and responsive.

The management of the Council expressed delight as no life was lost but however said further called for calm as “we await more information and a detailed investigation by the Accident Investigation Bureau in compliance with ICAO standards.

The Council pointed out that it had “been in communication with the airline and NCAA.

“The Council understands that Dana Air has provided logistic support and accommodation to passengers.

“The Council insists this must comply with minimum standards in accordance with prevailing Regulations under Part 19, Nigerian Civil Aviation Rules (NCAR).”

According to the Council, “An open, transparent, sensitive and responsive approach by the airline and relevant authorities is vital to sustaining confidence and assuring consumers.

“The Council welcomes this openness and attention to consumers, including providing medical or psychological support where necessary.”

It assured that it will in collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, other aviation agencies and service providers would be available to all passengers in the sector to answer questions, provide assistance and required assurances at this and other times.

It could be recalled Dana Airlines Flight 9J0363 operating from Abuja to Port-Harcourt on February 20th, 2018, landed at approximately 19:30hrs and overshot the runway but the Cause of incident still unknown but under investigation.

The CPC was established by Act No. 66 of1992, it commenced operations only in 1999, when its institutional framework was put in place with a mandate to eliminate hazardous products from the market, provide speedy redress to consumers complaints, undertake campaigns, ensure that consumers interest receive due consideration at the appropriate forum, and encourage trade, industry and professional associations to develop and enforce in their various fields quality standards designed to safeguard the interest of consumers.

It has been providing speedy redress to consumers’ complaints through negotiation, mediation and conciliation making consumers have value for their money.
