Belgian-Born Nigerian Prolific Striker Wants To Play For Super Eagles

Cyriel Dessers

March 31, 2018//-Belgian-born Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers has been ranked the most efficient striker in the Dutch Eredivisie after 28 matches in the division.

As reported by the statistics guru at OPTA, FC Utrecht striker Dessers has the best shot conversion rate this season in the Dutch topflight of all the strikers with five or more goals.

The 23-year-old’s shot conversion rate stands at 32 percent and he placed first ahead of another Nigerian player, 2002 World Cup star Bartholomew Ogbeche, who turns out for Willem II.

Ogbeche has a shot conversion rate of 30 percent, while Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Paul Gladon is third with 24 percent.

Dessers has hit eight Eredivisie goals (3 assists) from 23 appearances and Ogbeche has tallied nine goals (1 assist) from 16 games.

Fran Sol (Willem II) and Thierry Ambrose (NAC Breda) complete the top five strikers with the best shot-conversion rate in the Netherlands.

Born in Leuven, Belgium, Dessers has said that he won’t reject a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 World Cup, adding that his parents would be immensely proud of that decision.

Dessers told allnigeriasoccer.com : ”If I keep developing and performing there will come an opportunity one day.

”Of course, my mom and dad would be very proud if I could play for Nigeria.

”As a kid I was a fan of Okocha and Kanu, but there are a lot of good strikers in the past and now.”
